BACKGROUND
The rainbow is a symbol that has been adopted by the LGBTQ+ community to represent their intersectional diversity. The chronological editing of my project expresses the idea of a journey, and the images anticipate a brighter future for LGBTQ+ people and the promise that their dreams will come true. Our hope is that there will no longer be any discrimination or hatred in the world.
APPROACH
I referenced the theme of the song “Over the Rainbow” from the film The Wizard of Oz because Judy Garland is an icon for the LGBTQ+ movement, and the rainbow is an image that resonates with people in the community. I designed and edited a chronicle magazine to document and illustrate the experiences of LGBTQ+ people during various eras. I hope that members of the community can cross the rainbow from a black-and-white world of outdated ideas and intolerance to a more colorful one, filled with light and hope, and promise.
